      Paris was host to the Neptune World Championships 2013 this  month and saw the Vigrass sisters claim both the Ladies Singles and Doubles crowns.

       

      Sisters Claire and Sarah Vigrass both started playing Real Tennis at Prested Hall Real Tennis Club at the ages of 12 and 14 respectively.  Sarah continued to play whilst at Cambridge University and went on to win various junior titles as well as reaching the finals of the British, French and Australian Opens.  Claire has also become quite a dominant force in ladies real tennis, taking the game to a new level and becoming the youngest ever World Champion in 2011 at the age of 19.  Claire has held the British Open Singles title for the last three years; and together with her sister won the doubles title in both 2010 and 2012.  Having turned professional last April she intends to compete internationally in professional tournaments.

       

      Successfully making their way through the heats, the two sisters met in the Singles Final, and initially it looked as if Sarah might finally take the title from Claire.  However, her younger sister had no intention of relinquishing the trophy and fought back to win the match.  These two exceptionally strong players then worked together to defend their doubles title once again beating 2012 finalists Karen Hird and Freddy Adam.

       

      Prested Hall is very proud of its Real Tennis successes.  Being only one of five two-court centres in the world, in addition one of the courts features a glass wall, the only one of this design in the world.  If you would like further information on this exciting game, Prested’s real tennis professionals (01376 570220) offer free taster sessions to anyone tempted to try out the sport, known as “The Game of Kings – The King of Games”.

      REAL TENNIS - THE GUINESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT – FOR CHARITY

      Starting at 6pm Friday on May 10th 2013; Prested Hall real tennis players Will Stephens and Richard Ramjane are attempting to set a substantial Guinness World Record for playing real tennis doubles for as long as possible.

       

      They are raising funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital (Registered Charity No: 235825)  to say thank you for saving the life, a few years ago, of one of Richard’s twin sons, Fin.

       

      The other twin, Zac, won the national under 12s real tennis championship last year, and the two will be the penultimate pair to face Richard and Will.

       

      Waiting in the wings for the final match, when exhaustion has taken over (probably Saturday evening) will be the two real tennis world champions: local girl and former Prested star pupil Claire Vigrass, and the magnificent Rob Fahey, who is, extraordinarily, in his 20th year as world champion, a reign that is wholly unprecedented and will almost certainly never be repeated.

       

      For his part, Will holds the Guiness world record, which he set 3 years ago, for playing singles.

       

      Do come along and support this wonderful event.  There will be raffles and other fundraising activities in the evening of Saturday 11th May.
